IPO/Schutzhund Coaching, with Alex Lato

Sunday 14, 21, 28 January, 04 and 11 February, Woking

This five-week coaching programme is designed for enthusiasts of the sport to experience training elements of the IPO routine with dog-friendly methods.

‘Schutzhund’ is the German word for ‘protection dog’ and refers to a sport that focuses on developing and evaluating (Internationale Prüfungsordnung – IPO) those traits that make dogs more useful and happier companions to their owners. There are three phases in IPO. We will practice two of them: Obedience and Protection. The third is Tracking, offered by Enjoy Your Dog as a separate workshop.

We will cover elements of Obedience from BH to IPO 3 level, bitework – building grips, drive, motivation and confidence, problem solving. Exercises will be with and without helper. Participants will receive personalised online coaching between sessions.

Group size is limited to four, to maximise individual attention. Coaching will be tailored to each handler-dog team. We welcome active competitors, those preparing for BH (Begleithund – companion dog), as well as those looking for an active way to spend time with a high-drive, energetic dog. You don’t need previous experience, but a basic working relationship is desirable. Please contact us prior to booking if you are unsure about anything.
